About

Rooted in Iceland’s storytelling tradition

The Reykjavík Literary Agency (RLA) brings the best of Icelandic writing to readers around the world. Iceland is a nation of storytellers, from the medieval sagas to Nobel laureate Halldór Laxness and today’s acclaimed novelists, poets and crime writers. Few countries write, publish and read as many books per person, and that creative energy shapes everything we do.

Our list

We represent authors and titles in literary fiction, crime fiction, classics, narrative non-fiction, non-fiction and children’s books from a range of Icelandic publishers. Many of our authors are among the most successful and critically acclaimed writers in Iceland, and their stories, from Nordic noir to picture books, find readers far beyond the island.

We also work with selected international authors, offering them the same care, experience and global network that we bring to Icelandic writers.

Independent, with strong roots

RLA is owned by Forlagid, Iceland’s largest publishing house, but operates independently. This gives us the depth of the country’s leading publishing catalogue combined with the focus and flexibility of a dedicated agency.

How we work

The Reykjavík Literary Agency sells rights worldwide, both directly and through a network of trusted sub-agents. We have great expertise in handling translation rights for our authors and work closely with them and their publishers at every stage. We also offer quality fiction and non-fiction to production companies looking for strong stories with a distinctive sense of place.

Something for everyone

Whether you are a publisher searching for your next translated success or a producer looking for a story to bring to the screen, we have something to offer. We look forward to sharing the best of Icelandic creativity with you.

Reykjavík Literary Agency consists of Stella Johannesdottir and Thora Eiriksdottir, both with extensive experience in book publishing and rights selling.
