Last week, Asta Sigurdardottir’s descendants donated her original linocut blocks to the National Gallery of Iceland, and a selection of the works is now on display there alongside prints owned by the museum. It was a wonderful ceremony and short excerpts from the stories were read out with the accompanying image on display.
Asta’s first short story was published in 1951, with linocut illustrations, and when the collection came out ten years later it included fourteen linocuts, symbolic images that express and interpret the text.
Short Stories and Poems has recently been published in the UK, Germany and Denmark, with upcoming editions in Spain, France, The Netherlands, Armenia, Norway and Italy.![]()
