The tension builds very steadily, and there are no lulls in the narrative. Setting the action over a short period of time is a clever stylistic choice that is put to good use, and omitting soliloquies and internal monologues greatly aids the momentum without detracting from the immersion. I am actually surprised that the book did not receive a nomination for Blóðdropinn (The Drop of Blood) this year, as it is exceptionally well-written and crafted—ambitious, full of narrative joy, grounded in research, and excellent entertainment.”
