The twins Inga and Baldur are about to start their Easter break. They imagine a week of chocolate feasting and glorious laziness, but instead they learn they’ll be staying with their grandmother, who has just moved back to Iceland … to the mysterious settlement of Harewood. Inga greets the news with delight, certain her calculations prove Grandma owes them years’ worth of Easter eggs. Baldur, on the other hand, is far less excited, as a knot of
anxiety settles into his stomach.
It doesn’t take long, however, before the trip turns into a whirlwind of adventure: knights in the next yard, a bus ride that reeks of farts, new friends, and even new family members.
“What is it about Pig Fjord and Harewood that makes them so delightful? Perhaps it’s simply how down-to-earth the books are, so true to themselves and to the real lives of Icelandic children. They also remind us that there is so much beauty in the world; sometimes we just need to open our eyes and look around to see the magic.”
