Bananas are Iceland’s best-selling fruit. We slice them, mash them, whip them, grill them, bake them. But what do we actually know about them? 

Palmi knows about as much about bananas as the rest of us — next to nothing. He has just moved into a block of flats where he knows no one, and the days stretch out long and dull. Then his parents bring home an exotic toucan, and for the first time in weeks, Palmi has something to look forward to. Until the bird escapes into the frozen dark of the Icelandic winter.

Searching for the toucan, Palmi finds an unlikely ally in Fifa, and together the two set off on a rescue mission that leads them beneath the snow and into an astonishing banana museum. Did you know a banana is technically a berry? That blue and red bananas exist? That monkeys actually prefer grapes? But something is not quite right in this underground world, and the deeper Palmi and Fifa go, the stranger it gets.
