Hallfridur Olafsdottir

(1964-2020) was principal flautist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for over twenty years and an experienced music teacher. She received multiple awards and recognition for her work, including a YAM Award (Young Audiences Music Award) in 2019 and was appointed Knight’s Cross of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon in 2014.

In 2002, she was made an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London as a former Royal Academy of Music student who had become successful. She received Honorary Award of the Icelandic President’s Export Award in 2019 for “her unique contribution to increasing Iceland’s reputation abroad.” In 2020 she received the Gardabaer honorary recognition for „a contribution of importance to culture and the arts“.
