A new study contucted by our friends at the Icelandic Literature Center has found that Icelanders are reading more this year, and listening to more audiobooks. The national average is now 2.5 books read per month, up from 2.3 in 2019 and 2 in 2018, with all age groups reporting an increase in reading.

83% of those who replied had read a physical book in the past 12 months, a slight increase from the year before, and 45% of people had listened to an audiobook, up from 41% in 2019.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people’s reading habits, with 18% of the readers of physical books reporting that they are reading more this year than the previous one, and 36% of audiobook listeners saying that they are listening to more books.
