Rut and Alma never talk, even though they are classmates and neighbours and used to be best friends. 

Rut keeps to herself, part of a closed, devoutly religious family. Alma is driven and ambitious, already certain of the life she wants. Alma’s boyfriend Hlynur is a promising handball player set on a professional career. Fannar lives in the same building as the girls, hungry for the acceptance of his peers, but his attitudes and background keep working against him.

When unexpected challenges hit, each of them is forced to reconsider the future they thought was already decided. Rut wants to leave her religious community. Alma starts to doubt her relationship with Hlynur as he loses interest in his studies. Fannar has to confront his own prejudice, and everyone else’s. Crossroads follows four teenagers at the exact point where the life they expected and the life ahead of them stop lining up.
