Eirikur Orn Norddahl’s novel The Natural Laws has just been praised in a review by Göteborgs-Posten. The newspaper highlights the author’s imaginative approach to depicting the Icelandic town of Isafjorður, remarking that “Eirikur Orn Norddahl approaches Isafjordur in a way that makes me think of Gabriel García Márquez’s fictional Macondo, Thomas Mann’s stylized Davos, and Selma Lagerlöf’s magical Värmland”.
Göteborgs-Posten also notes, “What makes this a wonderful novel, rather than merely a skilled one, is the way he lets his imagination run wild,” and describes the author’s tone as “perfectly calibrated, gentle irony”.
Readers will have an opportunity to meet Norddahl at the Göteborg Book Fair on Friday, September 25, where he and his Swedish translator John Swedenmark will discuss the novel and the translation process. More information about the event is available at the Göteborg Book Fair website.
The book is also among the nominees for this year’s Nordic Council Prize.
